Out of 82 national CPI monitoring cities, 70 cities experienced inflation while 12 other cities experienced deflation. The highest inflation occurred in Tual City of 0.96 percent, while the highest deflation occurred in Manado City of 1.13 percent. Palu City experienced inflation of 0.81 percent, ranked 2nd highest in the region of Sulampua and 8th nationally.
The increase in the price index occurred in all expenditure groups, the highest was the foodstuff category (1.67 percent), followed by the processed food, beverages, cigarette and tobacco (1.24 percent), transport, communication and financial services (0 , 47 percent), housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel (0.40 percent), health (0.12 percent), education, recreation, and sports (0.09 percent), and clothing (0.08 percent percent).
The inflation rate for the calendar year to May 2017 was 3.16 percent, while the year-on-year inflation (May 2017 to May 2016) in Palu was 5.10 percent.
